The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) was founded in 1952. ASCA supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development so they can achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. ASCA provides professional development, publications and other resources, research, and advocacy to school counselors around the globe. ASCA works to ensure it meets the needs of all school counselors, regardless of setting, experience level or needs.
The Massachusetts School Counselors Association, Inc., MASCA, was founded in 1961 to work for the promotion, improvement and expansion of guidance and counseling in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The mission of MASCA is to promote excellence in the school counseling profession by advocating for, connecting, supporting, and empowering school counselors through leadership, collaboration, and professional development. MASCA’s role is to ensure that all students have equitable access to and the support of school counselors and the opportunity to become their best selves in school, the home, and the community.
The Western Massachusetts Counselor Association is an affiliate of the MA School Counselors Association. WMCA was founded in 1946 as the Western MA Personnel and Guidance Association. The organization consists of school counselors and adjustment counselors of all levels, as well as representatives from area colleges and universities. The primary objective of WMCA is to bring together individuals interested in some phase of guidance or admission work. It also serves as a vehicle to provide its members current information regarding the field of guidance and counseling, as well as formulating standards and principles for guidance and admission professionals.
